Niccolò dell’Arca’s ‘The Lamentation over dead Christ’ is one of the masterpieces of the early renaissance. These life size terracotta sculptures, created in 1462, are found in the Sanctuary of Santa Maria della Vita in Bologna. I was able to take these portraits of the sculptural group whilst working on a 3D scanning project with Factum Arte. The third image is published in ‘The Aura in the Age of Digital Materiality’, Factum Arte 2020, as well as some articles I wrote about the terracotta figures.
